Newton Energy Group LLC is currently accepting applications for an Energy Research Analyst at our office located at 300 Washington Street, Ste. 402, Newton, MA 02458.

Job duties:

  1. Conduct research projects involving power systems and power markets analyses.
  2. Regular performance of simulation studies using NEG’s ENELYTIX platform for model benchmarking and calibration.
  3. Maintain, update and support NEG’s proprietary data collection and analysis systems to update NEG’s market model databases for the North American, European, and other regional power markets. Preparation and update of supporting documentation.
  4. Draft research reports summarizing assumptions and findings of studies performed.
  5. Track new electric generation and transmission projects.
  6. Monitor major changes of electric market rules and regulations and making recommendations how these changes would affect NEG’s modeling set up.

Minimum job requirements: Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research or Applied Mathematics and one year work experience in any occupation involving analysis of the electric energy market is required. Knowledge of AIMMS modeling language is required. This position requires only incidental domestic travel to clients’ site and to attend industry conferences.

Responsibilities / Your Impact

  • Support the integration of power market data with ENELYTIX components
  • Develop ETL processes to support modeling use cases
  • Develop dashboards and analytics to support customer’s modeling efforts
  • Become an expert in power market modeling
  • Support client efforts with model diagnosis and advice on power markets modeling

Required Qualifications / Your Background

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or similar field
  • A knack for good software and the habits that produce it
  • Excellent analytical skills in response to open-ended questions
  • Fluency in SQL
  • Fluency in Python or C#
  • Confidence in presenting technical content to both colleagues and clients
  • Passion for the renewable energy transition
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of power markets
  • Familiarity with ETL packages
  • Familiarity with AWS services
  • Working knowledge of Git
